Microsoft and Marvel
recently announced a deal which will give MS, via the Xbox 360, exclusive rights to make Massively Multi-Player Online (MMO) games based on Marvel's superheroes. The Marvel superheroes include Spider-Man, The X-Men and, The Hulk. This agreement only affects MMO games based on Marvel characters. I see why this is a good thing for Marvel, but for Xbox 360, I guess just having "Spider-Man" and "Exclusive" in the same sentence is a good thing.
The Matrix Online and other sub-par MMO's simply don't have the draw that a
World of Warcraft or
Star Wars Galaxies has. I don't see the world of Spider-Man, The X-Men, or The Hulk being deep enough to support a game where hundreds/thousands are playing at any one time. They'll just end up as semi-popular games. I'll just have to wait and see what kind of games come out of this agreement.
