has an interesting article regarding Wedbush Morgan Securities analysts who forecast that the PS3 may be delayed until 2007 if the Xbox 360 launch goes poorly. The thinking behind it is that Sony will lower the price of the PS2 for the launch of the Xbox 360, hoping to draw attention away from the launch. Meanwhile Sony would work on a killer library of games for the PS3, which would then deliver the crushing blow to the Xbox 360 sometime in 2007. This theory is premised on the assumption that the Xbox 360 launch and its initial library of games will be so weak that Sony can just sit back and watch as the Xbox 360 implodes. My feeling is that there will be a number of good titles ready for the 360, and with Xbox LIVE, there is no way that the Xbox 360 will lose. It's all about the online gaming these days and Xbox LIVE has a huge headstart. Plus, almost everybody that is going to buy an Xbox 360 already has a PS2. The market for cheap PS2's won't affect the market for brand new Xbox 360's. We'll just have to wait and see, but I find these analysts ridiculous.
