MSNBC is today reporting
on NPD Group market research which concludes that game sales for October are down 24% from a year earlier coming in at $294 million for consoles and $71 million for handhelds. Analysts predict that the slowdown will not continue into the holiday season and blame the slow sales on lackluster games and the inevitable waiting period before the next generation of hardware. Although the Xbox 360 debuts in 8 days, the PS3 and Nintendo Revolution are not due until mid to late next year. There will be some blockbuster games coming out after the holiday season (Kingdom Hearts 2
, Tomb Raider
) which makes me think the slowdown will continue through the holidays but ease in January and February.
