EA today announced that it will be offering some of its biggest upcoming games for $39.99, including Black
, The Godfather
, and Fight Night Round 3
. This is essentially a pre-emptive move in the face of dwindling game sales. EA blames the current sales lag on the move to next-generation consoles. Allison and I blame poor sales on the fact that there are crappy games out there. If a game is excellent, people will pay $50 for it, no questions asked. By cutting the price on two of its biggest games, we feel that EA is basically admitting that these games aren't going to be good enough to merit a more expensive price. We'll be playing both Black
and The Godfather
when they come out, but I don't think Black
is my type of game. EA refers to it as "gun porn". Lovely.
