While there is no specific release date to announce, Reuters is today reporting that Bully, the highly anticipated and controversial game by those who gave us the "Grand Theft Auto" series, will hit North American store shelves sometime in October. The game will be made available exclusively for the PS2 (a recent development, by the way).

In Bully you play as 15-year-old Jimmy Hopkins, who is attending Bullworth Academy, a fictional boarding school in the US (although previous reports of the game stated it would be in the UK...details, details). As Jimmy, you must protect yourself from various bullies at the school with such weapons as baseball bats, stink bombs and marbles.

While the game has yet to be rated, the infamous attorney Jack Thompson has called upon Take-Two to stop the release of Bully, and has compared the game to the tragic school shooting at Columbine. Thompson's rantings caused the the Miami-Dade County School Board to join with Jack (who is a resident of that county), and also ask Take-Two to stop production of the game.

Again, the game is without a rating at this time, but previews show no blood and no death, which makes for a potential "T" rating. Of course, things can change, which is why it's always best to reserve judgement until the game is actually availalbe. Then again, I have yet to see a single politician attack "Grand Theft Auto" in a manner that suggests they've ever played the game. Ah well. Bully will continue to be bullied, no matter what the content. Ah, the irony.
