Note, this is worldwide sales. That's 90,000 PS3s in Japan, meaning that there were about 180,000 PS3s for North America. That comes in with analysis that Sony, despite claiming a 400,000 launch number for NA, came in well below half of that goal. I don't expect that paltry number to rise very much as shipments of the PS3 are barely trickling in.
Meanwhile, Nintendo, who has yet to launch their console in Japan and Europe (the PS3 won't launch in Europe until March '07), has already sold more than 700,000 Wiis. Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo of America stated that Nintendo will ship 1 million Wiis by the end of the year and sell 1 million more in January. With large shipments coming weekly, I wouldn't be suprised if Nintendo ends up selling 1.5 million by the end of the year.
On another note, NextGenWars.com's user survey currently reads these results for the winner of the console war:
54% think the Wii will win
29% think the Xbox 360 will win
18% think the PS3 will win
The times, they are a changin'.
