Have you always had a yen for making games but the Art Institute of (insert city name here) wasn't quite working out? Well, now you can write and develop games in your pajamas using XNA Game Studio Express, Microsoft's game developer kit for the home. The download of the kit is free, however, if you actually want to run your games on your Xbox 360, then you'll have to join the XNA Creators Club for $99/year. Not too shabby.
