Enterbrain, a Tokyo-based video game magazine, is reporting on Japanese sales data for the PS3 and Wii. As reported in the NYT, Sony sold 534,336 PS3s in Japan, well short of the million they had projected. Meanwhile, Nintendo sold 1.14 million units, despite launching three weeks after the PS3!

Wow, wow, wowee, wow! Anecdotal evidence, both here and in Japan suggests that PS3s are sitting on store shelves while retailers can't keep in stock the Wii. All of this sales data that is starting to trickle in is bad news for Sony. They needed the PS3 to be a hit, not just a good seller. It's not a hit. It could be in a year or two when some great games come out and the price drops, but it really doesn't matter because by that time, it'll be considered an extra console as most people, especially in the US, will prefer the Wii and Xbox 360.

How is the Xbox 360 is popular due to its constant red ring of death?

How is the Wii so popular when all it is is basically a repackaged Gamecube?

THe PS3 will win.
