On Friday, I wrote about December sales numbers for the US hardware market. Today, an AP story reports that the US video game business had its best year ever, up 19% over last year, for a total of $12.5 billion.

This isn't really surprising as more and more people are getting into gaming. The success of "value gaming", in the form of the Nintendo DS and the PS2, shows that people don't necessasrily care about the latest cutting edge technology, but rather about fun and value. Thus, the success of the Wii can also be explained.
