I have yet to have any problems with my Xbox 360, however, many unlucky gamers have had their stomachs drop when they've seen that red ring of light flash on their 360s, telling them that the console is not happy.
I bring this up because longtime Lunabeaner, Mindy, today posted her experience with a red ring of death.

One interesting nugget of knowledge that came out of this is that if you are experiencing the red ring of death, you should try plugging your Xbox 360 directly into a wall outlet. You see, sometimes a powerstrip or surge protector does not give it enough power and it needs a mainline source of juice.
If that doesn't work, you can always try wrapping your Xbox 360 in blankets.

I work for fix360fix.com and help gamers with RROD 360's everyday and I wouldnt advise you try to fix your 360 with any other guide fix360fix.com is the only site that actually has a customer service phone # that you can call 7 days a week. - Shameless plugg I know but its the truth. Good luck with your 360!
peace,
Anthony

My ID says it all. Why the hell should I pay to have something fixed, if I can do it myself? It is a shameless plug indeed. The truth? Hardly. As long as it doesn't involve opening the console it shouldn't pose any hazards. So cram your "all day everyday" customer support. What is it? Your personal cellphone? Get real. Why must all Anthonys be such douches... My landlord is a'Tony, and hes the biggest slumlord there ever was.

I have tried this blanket way on several occasions on a few of my friends xBox's & it has seemed to have fixed it but only temp..
I have not of yet tried this 'straight into the wall' approach as for some reason mine has just RRoD me. I havejust wrapped it up & if that doesn't work I will try the wall.
Thanks,
Chris x

I tried all the above and it did not work. But here's a handy hint to everyone:
Try turning it off and on 15 times. Eventually it will start working again. DO NOT TURN IT OFF AFTERWARDS.
No, seriously, it's true.

I sent in 3 Xbox 360 Consoles to get replaced when mine was still under warranty. None of the new out of the factory consoles were working, so I tried replacing the power cords, and sure enough, the problem was just a bad Cord. The fact that plugging it straight into the wall helped, probably had something to do w/ your cord being faulty, but not entirely broken. Before you get inlisted into some scam on the internet, or send in your X-Box, I suggest that you first instead, try replacing your power cord.

I think Microsoft just made a crappy product myself. I've had two boxes go out on me within the last two weeks. Two separate issues too so I know that there is nothing wrong on my end. I'm in a wall socket, and the blanket trick only works about five or six times before your xbox just stops working. I'm hoping the new boxes have better hardware inside. To bad Apple doesn't make a system... it would be expensive... but at least it would work.
