Yesterday we reported that both
GamesRadar and
GameInformer had awarded
BioShock (to be released next week for the Xbox 360 and PC) with perfect scores of 10. Today we have more numbers rolling in.
GameSpy smacked
BioShock with 5 out of 5 stars saying:
Put simply, BioShock is an unparalleled achievement. No other game comes even remotely close to it in terms of raw emotional connection. It may still be too early to name a Game of the Year, but after experiencing BioShock in all of its haunting artistic glory, every other game will have to try that much harder to even be considered as a candidate.
It's also worthy to note that GameSpy's only listed cons are that the game is too short, and it's a little messed up harvesting Little Sisters.
1Up also slapped
BioShock with a perfect 10, albeit a soft 10:
No creation is ever truly flawless....The mechanics of the final battle are somewhat familiar, and the enemy voice samples do repeat a bit too frequently. But taken as a whole, as an experience that's richly and utterly complete, and one that engages the player in a constant dialogue, BioShock is virtually unassailable.
Finally we have
IGN, which awarded the game with a 9.7. No, it's not
perfect but, apparently, it's the highest score IGN has given to an Xbox 360 title:
BioShock stands as a monolithic example of the convergence of entertaining gameplay and an irresistibly sinister, engrossing storyline that encompasses a host of multifaceted characters. This is an essential gaming experience.

What I find to be most interesting is that each and every one of the reviews goes into detail regarding the psychological impact of the game. Because of this, it is my opinion that the game could be somewhat of a disappointment. Yes, I know it will be
awesome and deserving of much praise, but there seems to be a certain bandwagon that many reviewers are jumping on. Is it possible they are giving too much credit to the brain upset in order to boost the game's rating? I guess we'll find out next week.
