April 2009 videogame sales numbers are in and it looks like a huge win for Nintendo.
The DS sold 1.04 million units (the numbers were not broken up into DS and DSi), blowing away all other hardware. The next closest is the Wii which sold 340,000.
The basic synopsis is this: Due to the fact that GTA IV and Mario Kart Wii (still #3 after a year of being available) were released in April of 2008 and nothing of merit was released in April of 2009, a year on year comparison is fairly useless.
The thing to take note of is that Nintendo continues to dominate with their blend of affordability and approachable games, particularly in this economy. Proof of consumers looking for bargains can be seen in the fact that the PS2 (now $99) outsold the PS3 and almost beat out the X360. That's just sad.
Here are the numbers:

Nintendo DS - 1.04 million
Nintendo Wii - 340,000
Xbox 360 - 175,000
