The Road to Dodongo's Cavern

Learning Saria's Song

Head back to Kokiri Forest. You need to talk to Saria in order to get Saria's Song. Jump on the ledge toward North, climb the vines, and work your way up to the entrance to the Lost Woods. Guide yourself through the various tunnels by listening to the music. When, it gets loud, that's the tunnel to take. You'll run into the Owl. For those who are lazy its Right, Left, Right, Left, Straight across, Left, Right. You'll get to Sacred Forest Meadow. You have to fight a Wolfos. You can only attack it right before it attacks you. Go through the gate.

Follow the path, avoid the Deku Scrubs (or take them out). Keep going North. Go up the stairs. You'll find Saria sitting on a stump. Talk to her. You have learned Saria's Song. Go back to Kokiri Forest, and head to Kakariko Village.

Kokiri Forest to Kakariko Village

Head towards Kakariko Village. Enter during the day. First thing you should do is introduce yourself to the clock soldier. His times come in handy.

Next meet the Boss of the Carpenters...everything is worthless to him. Notice the well in the middle of the village. Leave it alone for now, but know it will drive you batty at a later point in the game.

Go to the southern area of the village. Here you will meet a girl who has lost her seven Cuckoos. You must collect them.
1) One is next to her.
2) One is by the village entrance.
3) One is by the tree near the entrance.
4) There's one behind the gate beyond the windwill door. To get to this one, run up the path leading to the windmill door with a chicken in hand. Jump off, and you'll float thanks to the chicken you are carrying. Toss the chicken right before hitting the gate so you can grab on. Once you climb the gate and toss the chicken over the fence by the backdoor entrance so you can grab him later and take him to the coop. (There's a hole you might want to fall through to collect some underground goodies).
5) While on this side of the fence, head up the ladder along the ledge and get the chicken up above. Toss him to a place where you can grab him later.
6) You'll have to use your "floating chicken" move to get the chicken on the ledge by the Skulltulla house. Jump from the area with all of the construction.
7) Smash open the crate next to the first house you pass in the village to the left by rolling into it. This is the final Cuckoo.
Once you give the girl all of her Cuckoos back, she'll reward you with an EMPTY BOTTLE. YAY!

Now head down the path next to the chicken coop (SE corner), which leads to the Graveyard.

Explore the Graveyard. If you're there during the day, you'll run into a kid imitating Dampe, the Gravedigger. Noted.

Go to the very back of the Graveyard, where you will find two graves, a stone, and an image of the Triforce in the ground. Stand on this patch of land and play Zelda's Lullaby on your Ocarina. This will reveal a hole which you will fall down.

Now you are in the Royal Family's Tomb. Move forward and kill all of the bats. Doing so will raise the bars on the door. Pass through it.

In this room you will encounter many ReDeads. Simply avoid them at this time, as they will suck the life right out of you. Pass through the door on the opposide side of the room and approach alter. Check it out.

Written on the alter is the Sun's Song. This will speed up time from dusk to dawn and dawn to dusk.

Go back into the room with the ReDeads and play your new Sun's Song for them. This will freeze them in place so you can kill them.

Exit the tomb. All we really go from there, so far, is the Sun's Song. Trust me, you'll be happy to have it. Speeding up time is necessary.

Now, head back into Kakariko Village, and up the path toward Death Mountain.

Kakariko Village to Death Mountain

Show the guard at the gate ZELDA'S LETTER, and he will open the gate for you. He tells you you'll need a better sheild, but that's OK, because we already bought it at the Bazaar in the Market. He also mentions a mask that he wants at the Happy Mask Shop. Keep that in mind, but pass through the gate.

Now you're on the Death Mountain Trail. You'll encounter a Red Tektite. Pass him if you want, or slash him with your sword. Do this with the next few, and work your way up to the Goron and speak to him. He'll tell you about the boulder blocking Dodongo's Cavern. Continue up the path, and, eventually, you'll find yourself inside Goron City.

Jump to the bottom, and walk up to the door with the doormat in front of it. Play Zelda's Lullaby on your Ocarina. Inside the door, you'll meet Darunia. He needs to hear some cool tunes. Whip out your Ocarina and play Saria's Song for him. He does the Hot-Hot dance for you. Then, he tells you about the Spiritual Stone of Fire (Goron's Ruby). He gives you GORON'S BRACELET. You can now pick bomb flowers and throw them. Before leaving, light a Deku Stick.

Exit, and light the torches outside, surrounding the big statue. This will cause the big statue to rotate. Now, light another stick and run it up the stairs to the right. There are two torches here to light as well.

Grab a bomb flower and begin tossing bombs from up above into the big statue that you made rotate. After you get a few in, you'll be rewarded with a Heart Piece. Jump down and grab it.

Exit Goron City and go back to Death Mountain Trail. Head to the right and you'll see a Goron with a bomb flower next to him. Pick the bomb up and chuck it off the cliff. This will blow up the rock beneath that was blocking the entrance. Head down and through the now opened entrance. Pick a bomb flower to blast open the next door. This will open Dodongo's Cavern.
