The Road to the Fire Temple

Temple of Time and Getting Din's Fire

Head to the Castle and go to the Temple of Time. Sheik will teach you the PRELUDE OF LIGHT which allows you to return to the Temple of Time by playing that song. Now, you can go back and forth between being a kid and an adult. You just have to place the sword into the stone to do so.

Place the sword and turn into a kid. It's the only way to get Din's Fire. Head to Hyrule Castle, climbing the vines like you did before. After you jump down from the gate, take the right path and blow up the boulder there. Crawl through the crawl hole and into the Great Fairy's Fountain. Play Zelda's Lullaby and the Fairy will give you DIN'S FIRE. A magic spell which allows you to, you guessed, make fire!

Also, while you're still a kid, you can talk to, Bonoonu, the SCARECROW in the NNE garden of Lake Hylia. Get there through Zora's Domain like you did before. Approach the Scarecrow in the garden in the NE of the map. Whip out your Ocarina. Then play some notes for the Scarecrow, it doesn't matter what you play. This will be known as the Scarecrow's Song...remember it. You can play it to make his friend appear in certain areas later in the game. He can be used as a Hookshot point. But, first, you have to go back and visit hime as an adult.

Return to the Temple of Time (you can play the Prelude of Light) and grab the sword to turn into adult Link.

Now, you should return to visit the Scarecrow. You'd think that you could get to Lake Hylia by going through Zora's Domain, but, you can't because it's all frozen over now...we'll get to that later. The only way to get to Lake Hylia, where you can talk to the Scarecrow is by going through the entrance in the SW of Hyrule Field.

Get on Epona and head there. You'll have to jump two gates/fences with Epona. Gain speed and take them straight on. You'll be in Lake Hylia. Approach the Scarecrow. Pull out your Ocarina and play the Scarecrow's Song. He'll tell you that his buddy, Pierre, is around various places and you can play the Scarecrow's Song to summon him. He can be used as Hookshot point later in the game.

Now, you are finally ready to head to Kakariko Village and then on to Goron City in order to get to the Fire Temple.

Goron City, Goron Tunic, getting to Fire Temple

At this point, you need the GORON TUNIC, a heat resistant tunic, in order to enter the next Temple, the Fire Temple. Go to Goron City. There is a lone Goron there who is rolling around. You have to time a bomb so that it explodes right when he's rolling by. After you listen to him, he'll give you the GORON TUNIC. This will also open the two doors on the bottom floor of Goron City.

You can also go do a couple of things that will help you in your quest. One of which is to get the ADULT WALLET. You need to get 10 Gold Skulltula Tokens and then go to the Skulltula House in the SSE of Kakariko Village. Talk to the boy in the house and he'll give you the ADULT WALLET. You can now hold 200 Rupees. If you don't have enough Gold Skulltulas you have to do some searching. At this point in the game, we had 9. So, we went up the Death Mountain trail (off of Kakariko Village) and used a bomb on the right wall to open up a little cave with a Skulltula in it. Also, now that you have the Hookshot, you can grab tokens from a distance if the Gold Skulltula seems out of reach. Remember to listen for the Skulltulas. They make the clicking/hissing sound.

Right next to the Skulltula House in Kakariko Village, there is a Shooting Gallery. If you win, you get the LARGE QUIVER. You can now hold 40 arrows.

Anyway, back in Goron City, go to the bottom floor and go the Northernmost room. Pull the statue out and towards you. This will open the secret passage to the DEATH MOUNTAIN CRATER.

There will be a broken bridge. Use your Hookshot to get to the other side. You'll run into Sheik. She'll teach you the BOLERO OF FIRE. This makes it so that you can return to this area at any time.

Take a left on the bridge and go down the hole with the ladder. This will put you in the Fire Temple.
