The Road to the Forest Temple

Getting Epona, your horse

Even though Sheik tells you to head to Kakariko Village, head to Lon Lon Ranch in order to get Epona, your horse. This will make traveling around much quicker.

Enter the Ranch and talk to Ingo. Pay him 10 Rupees to ride. As soon as the 60 seconds starts, use your Ocarina to play Epona's Song. A horse will come over to you (Epona). Get on and then approach Ingo. Talk to him. You will be enter a race for 50 Rupees. If you beat Ingo, he'll offer to race you again for Epona! Here's a tip for the race: never go down past one carrot. Always keep them in reserve. Also, try to get out in front of Ingo and block him from passing. After you beat Ingo twice, Epona is yours!

Ingo will lock you in. Line up Epona with the gate that is blocking you and charge the fence using a few carrots. If you hit it straight on, you'll jump it and will be able to leave.

Kakariko Village and the Lost Woods

After you have Epona, head to Kakariko Village. Head to the Graveyard in the SE of the village.

Go up to the grave on the left path with the greenery in front of it. Pull it back and drop down. Now, you have to follow Dampe and avoid the fire that he drops.

Dampe will give you the HOOKSHOT. To exit the underground area, play the Song of Time in front of the black/gray blocks blocking your way. This will put you into the windmill. Grab the Heart Piece.

Exit Kakariko Village and head to the Lost Woods, in the North of Kokiri Forest.

Enter the Lost Woods. Remember, listen to the music to tell you which path to go. The louder the better. About halfway through, you'll run into Mido. Play Saria's Song for him to let you pass.

Now, you'll have to face some big Sentries who carry spears. Watch their movements and run into the little side areas. When they pass, run by them, always trying to head to the top of the map. In the narrow passage to the north you'll run into one who slams his club to the ground, sending a force out that will hurt you. You just have to avoid him and the "force". He'll aim at you, while his attack approaches, move forward and away from it. Soon, you'll pass him and find yourself in front of a tree stump. No Saria here. Ah well.

Sheik will appear and teach you the Minuet of Forest. Now you can come back here just by playing your OCARINA.

Use your HOOKSHOT on the branch of the tree to get up to the platform. Enter the door and you'll be in the Forest Temple.
