Concerning This Guide

This strategy guide was written playing the "Hyrulean Adventure" portion of the game in single-player mode, using the GBA SP as the controller. This is not to say it will not help those of you playing the game with more than one player and without a GBA. Zelda games are about doing certain things in certain order. This game is no different, and the number of players you have or the controller you are playing with won't change that. In other words, if you are playing "The Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords Adventures", this guide will help (outside of the multi-player battle mode "Shadow Battle").

Again, I played with the GBA SP as the controller. This has its advantages and its disadvantages. It's cool entering a cave and having it appear on your GBA instead of on the TV screen. However, the controls on the normal controller are better. Using the C-stick for fast formations is much more efficient (and more fun), than the L-button drop-down menu option the GBA gives you. So, do what you need to do. Do both. It doesn't matter. Just make sure your GBA isn't going to die on you in the middle of a level, or don't unplug the GBA in the middle of a level, or your game will be over.

This guide will take you fairly straight through the game. Side quests of collecting additional Heart Containers or Force Gems are sometimes included...other times they are not. This is because Heart Containers don't hold the same importance as in previous Zelda games, as your Heart Container count goes back down to four at the start of every level. Concerning Force Gems, your goal in every level is to collect 2000. When you reach 2000 you get a more powerful group attack, and you are able to break through the dark barrier at the end of the level. If you have not acquired the 2000 Force Gems by the time you reach the dark barrier, you will have to go back to the beginning of the level and collect more. However, as soon as you reach 2000, you will be warped back to the dark barrier. So, the guide gets you to where you need to go, but you should do some exploring for yourself if you'd like to get some "extra"...but you don't need those extras to successfully more through the game.

With that being said, the game and guide are fairly straightforward. So, please, enjoy.

Introduction

Having chosen the "Hyrulean Adventure", you will sit through a very Zelda-esque introduction, complete with "a sense of dread" and "ominous clouds". Progress through the story with the "A" button. You will be told of six maidens who are trapped and an evil sorcerer, Vaati. The six maidens and Princess Zelda create a portal for you, then "Shadow Link" enters, destroys the portal and abducts the maidens and Princess Zelda. You are taken to the Four Swords Sanctuary. Walk up to the sword and draw it from the stone. There are now four of you, and you will be sucked into a different world. Your goal is to save the six maidens and Princess Zelda to defeat Vaati and make Hyrule a happy place again. You will be told of "Force Gems". "Force Gems" are more fun to collect in multi-player mode where you complete for them, but they definitely have their place in single player mode, as, once you collect 2000 of them in every level, you'll become a more powerful and effective quartet. So, with that being said, start your adventure.
