Walkthrough and Strategy Guide
Realm of the Heavens
Make your way east between flame bursts. Take on the Darknuts and the flames blocking you from going south will disappear. Go south. Here, take on the large Warrior. The smaller Darknuts will be taken to the underworld when you strike them. After the big guy is taken care of, fall through the south whirlpool. Hit the switches. This will drop more Darknuts and force gems in the above world. Take care of them, then fall through the NW whirlpool. Take on any enemies here and open the treasure chests for a 50 Force Gem and Heart Container. Return through the portal. You will notice the shadowy Darknuts are still here. It's OK. Leave them be and return north.
Back here you'll be ambushed. Clear out the bad guys and the north fire barrier will be put out. Go north. Take on Shadow Link, and look out for the odd surge of arrows coming your way. Then, drop through the NW whirlpool. Collect the goods, exit out and jump down the SW whirlpool. Hit the switches, return to the overworld, and collect the force gems. Pass through the third whirlpool, move north (past the portal), and stand in Cross formation to activate all of the switches. Return through the portal and take out the new enemies. Collect the force gems and retrieve the Moon Pearl from the treasure chest. Carry it two screens south.
Toss the Moon Pearl into the NE corner and go to the underworld. Now you can face those shadowy Darknuts. Do so, then collect the Roc's Feather. Exit out, move north, then jump over to the east screen. Take the path of your choice east again.
Here, take on the chained-mace fire monster. Jump into his ring of fire to get to him and hack away. When he's out, your paths to the north and south are clear. Go north. You're dealing with winds here. The gust come and go. Run along the path between gusts, or face the gusts head on, and hit the switches as you go. When all four switches are hit, jump down the whirlpool. Move north, past the portal, and grab the Hammer. Return to the overworld and backtrack along the windy path, then move south two screens.
Take out the color-clawed monster for several hundred Force Gems. Next, start pounding away at the ground and you'll raise some bumps. Hit them again. Eventually you'll pop a key out of one. Grab it, go north, then use the key on the east gate. Continue east.
Take the cloud platforms around, taking out the Darknuts as you go. When they're all out of the picture, the east fire barrier will subside. Go through it. Next you'll encounter a bridge. Line up Long and wait for the bridge to line up with the coordinating colors (green, red, blue, purple). Quickly run across the bridge. Take on the enemies and cross the next bridge to the east.
On this screen there are many colored bridges leading to switches. Break your boys up, wait for one of the bridges to match the color of your particular Link, and run him across. Do this with the four switches. Standing on the four switches will provide you with the Pegasus Boots. Grab them, then move north.

Run across the next bridge with your Pegasus Boots (you have to time it perfectly). Continue east and you'll come to a platform. The platform has four buttons on it. These guide the platform in the direction you want it to go. Guide it through the fire spouters to the SE. Here is a switch. Hit it with your sword. Take the platform to the new bridge, collect the Bombs and go east. Here you'll face the Dodongos. You've fought them before. Simply wait for them to open their mouths and toss a bomb inside. Repeat until they blow up. Once this happens, you'll be facing a larger Dodongo. Open the treasure chests for Level 2 Bombs, which are necessary to take this big guy out. When he's gone, continue east and cut through the dark barrier.
The Dark Cloud
Fall down the ledges, take on the mean birds, and ride the cloud east. Pop into the door and climb the ladder all of the way up. Pass through the door, then the next one. Move down the ladder and pop into the cannon. Pop out, when you hit the main screen, aim right and break through the cracked blocks with your sword. Go through the door. Inside, collect the Bow. Next, break all of the pots and stand on the four switches. This provides you with a new cloud platform on the main screen. Exit out, drop down and take the new platform east.
Hop on the next platform and shoot the four targets above it. With all four targets hit, make your way along the ladders and over to the next cloud platform. Again, go east, then enter the next door.
Inside, cross below and exit out to the right. On the main screen, aim up and hit the target with and arrow. Return through the west door, climb the ladder and exit west. Shoot the west target with another arrow. You will see ladders appear at the top of your screen.
With both targets hit, return east and down. Back outside, under the arrow you shot up, go east. Take on the enemies and exit right. Collect the Bombs return west, again beneath the north target. Go west again, climb the ladder, and exit east. Pass through the next east door, climb the ladder and exit out. Blow up the cracked blocks with your bombs and climb the ladders up. Phew.
On this next screen, you'll have to deal with a giant bomb. Quickly pass through the west door and climb the ladder up. Break the pots and step on the revealed switch. Simply stepping on it does the job. You don't need to keep anyone on it. Exit west, fall into the cannon and go through the door to the next level. Find the switch here and step on it. Exit out, fall back into the cannon, and pop out to the east. Collect the 100 Force Gem and fall into the east cannon. Shoot up to the east door and pass through. Take on the enemies, climb the ladder, toss a bomb at the cracked blocks and go through the door. Cross the bridge, go inside the next door, break the pots, step on the revealed switches (ladders on the main screen will appear), collect the 200 Force Gem from the treasure chest, exit out and climb the ladder to the next level.
Climb up the ladders here and step into the light. You'll be sucked into a nice cloud world. Move north to the next screen, ignoring the Wizrobe as you go. Stand on the square switch. Swing at the turtle monsters and push them down the holes. When they've been eliminated, collect the Moon Pearl from the treasure chest. Take the Moon Pearl south, to where we left the Wizrobe, and pass through the portal.
In the underworld, line up in Cross formation between the left section of switches and hit all four of them. Move back up to the overworld and collect the Hammer. Move north two screens. Pound the poppers through the maze. Move down the central staircase for a Heart Container. Exit out, then take the west staircase for a 100 Force Gem, and for access to the east stairs. Climb them up and make your way through the maze to the east exit.
In front of you is an odd little metal area. Approach it and use your hammer. You'll temporarily see spikes come up in the metal area. Use your hammer to find a path to the each of the three switches and continue east. Hit the next three switches and go east again. Hit the four switches, collect the hundreds of Force Gems and move north. Here, hit the switches to the east and make your way, and go north. Here you'll find more switches. Hit them and go west. You can only hit one switch from your position, so move south, then find an opening to the north. From here, make your way to the west bridge. Take it across.
Hop into the portal, then pass through the central portal and go north. Take on the many Darknuts, collect the Force Gems, and go north. Climb down the west staircase and collect the Lamp. Climb back out and light the two torches. Climb down the east staircase and grab a Bow. Take the Bow upstairs and shoot arrows through the lit torches to light the unlit torches. This will create a bridge. Take it across.
Face the many Shadow Links spit out at you. After a bit, Princess Zelda will appear, telling you this is the time to defeat Shadow Link. Simply do what you were doing. When you eliminate them all, the Dark Mirror is yours. WooHoo! Take the rainbow bridge across and break through the dark barrier.
Palace of Winds
Enter the temple and hop down to the main corridor. For Force Gems, move east, take on the chained-mace warrior, destroy the pots to reveal four switches, stand on them, then climb the ladder to access the revealed treasure chests. Then, move west, take on this chain-maced warrior. Hit the switch and collect more Gems. Return to the main corridor and step on the square switch. Take on all of the enemies and go north to the next room.
Climb the stairs. Pull the NW lever to reveal a selection of weapons. Collect the Bow and go through the NW door. Climb down the stairs. Drop down from the ledge. In the middle of your fall, shoot your Bow at the west target. Once you hit it, climb up the ladder and cross the new bridge to the east. Here, you'll see a target above a pit. Aim up, then fall down the pit. Shoot up and a bridge will save you from falling all of the way down. Climb the ladder up and cross over to the east. Here are two tunnels up. Shoot your arrows up them to shoot the targets on the main screen. When you've hit them both, exit out to that room, and go through the newly opened door to the north.
In this room you have more targets to hit...along with a spike maze that gets in your way. The key to hitting all of the targets is to stand at a distance from them for a clear shot. You should also break apart from your group so fewer spikes get in your way. You can hit the targets from any direction. Once you hit all four, collect the Moon Pearl and the Blue Bracelet from the treasure chest. Exit back out to the main room. Just south of your entrance to this room is the portal. Don't worry about it right now. Instead, grab a Hammer and go through the SE door.
Pop the poppers and use your hammer to make it across the spiked area. Pop the poppers at the far end, and the door to the south will open up. Go through it. Down here you have more poppers and some pots. Note the design of the pots, and pop the poppers so the remaining ones are in the same position of the pots. Some blocks to the south will disappear. Enter the area and go south. Make your way around the maze (using the main screen area, too), to the treasure chest with the Moon Pearl inside. Carry the Moon Pearl back to the central room and drop it just north of the SE door.
Run over to the SW room, collecting the Boomerang as you go. Here, hit the switch to the north with your boomerang. Exit out and pop into the NW room. Toss your boomerang over the wall to the switch protected by statues in the SW room. Return to the SW room and go through the west door. Inside, push the two blocks against the east wall. Have one Link pass through the portal that is created. In the Underworld, approach the shadows of your other Links. Pick one up and carry him over to the platform with the switch on it. Continue walking in the Underworld to the west portal. Once you're in the overworld, have the Link who is sitting on the platform step on the switch, then have him hit the other switch with the boomerang. This opens the NW door. Go through it. Collect the Small Key and the Moon Pearl from the treasure chests. Make your way back to the central room. Carry the Moon Pearl down the stairs and place it in either of the two portal spots by the south door. One more to go.
With the key in hand, grab the Pegasus Boots and lock the NE door. Before going in, collect the Bomb. Inside, toss the bomb in the middle of the north wall. Pass through the hole to get your Boots upgraded. Exit out, then run over the east gap to the square switch. Stand on the switch, then pass through the north door. Watch out for the hand, and climb down the stairs. Down here, fall off the ledge and use your Pegasus Boots to run across "the air" to the treasure chests (if you want), but, more important, to the ladder on the opposite side. Climb up, then climb down the next set of stairs. Use the same trick here to make it to the small little ladder to the west. It's tough. Just keep trying. Make it up to the main screen, then, again, climb down the next set of stairs. This time, the door you need to get to is in the center of the room. Move across the screen to the many ladders, then fall from them to the door. Again, tough, but doable. On the main screen, cross the sliding blades with your Pegasus Boots, and collect the Moon Pearl from the treasure chest. Push the blocks away for an easy exit, and make your way to the central room. Place your last Moon Pearl.
Take all of your boys down one of the portals. Place one on a switch, single out another Link and take him back to the main screen and down another portal. Have him step on a switch. Repeat this process until you've stepped on all of the switches and the door to the north on the main screen is opened up. Grab the Bow and pass through it.
Look out for the bumpers and take out the crazy monsters. Grab the Small Key and go north. Shoot arrows at the one eyed monsters. Taking them out opens the east door. However, don't go through it yet. Backtrack and grab the Hammer. Go to the NE room to get the fairy to upgrade it, then go to the room east of the one-eyed monsters. If you fall through the hole under the pots, to get out you'll need to toss a Link at the cannon, then switch to that Link in midair so he actually lands in the cannon. It's not worth going down there and dealing with it. With your upgraded hammers, stand on the large square in the middle of the room and pound. You'll flip to an below ground area. Play the game of tossing Links over gaps and standing on switches, then drop down and smash through the cracked blocks. Cross the gap and open the treasure chest to collect the Small Key. Work your way out and return to the room where the one eyed monsters once were. Unlock the west door, then backtrack and collect upgraded Pegasus Boots. Return to your unlocked door and pass through. Break through the blocks and make your way to the square switch. Stand on it and the door to the north in the room with the one-eyed monsters will open up. Return there, run across the gap and pass through. Slash through the dark barrier.

Here you will meet Vaati. He's not too tough. First, you need to grab the bombs and place them in his wind tunnel. The goal is to get the bombs to blow when the bomb reaches Vaati...so hold it for a few seconds before tossing it. Also, he's much easier to deal with if you break away from the group. Hit him three times with the bombs and he'll start attacking you anew. When he does, simply fall into the hole in the center, which places you in a cannon. When Vaati approaches the center, pop out and slam him with your sword as you fall down, just as you would a cracked block. One hit and he'll appear in the underground area. Fall anywhere but in the center to meet him down there and slash him. Repeat this process until Vaati is no more. YOU'RE DONE! Oh. No you're not. This is a Zelda game. You still have more.
Outside you'll meet the Princess again. Like OoT, it's escape from the castle before it collapses time. When you gain control again, run east and climb down the ladder. Make your way down the ladders of the next room to the next level down (wait for the Princess). Here, work your way down again, protecting the Zelda from the enemies. Down one more level, the Princess won't drop off the ledge. Create a ladder for her by stepping on the switch by the treasure chest. Follow her down to the next level. Again, here's a ledge. Make your way to the switch across from her by going through the series of doors (starting with the SW door, grabbing the Roc's feather and exiting the SW door) and hitting the switches, ending with the switch upon the barrel hanging in midair. Toast the bad guys and go down to the next level. Toast the bad guys, and follow Zelda down. You'll fall to your last battle, with (who else) Gannon.
Like all bosses in the game, Gannon is easy to defeat. All you have to do is line up and smack him with your sword when he momentarily stops. Avoid being hit by his beam, which sends you underground for battle. Continue to hit him until Zelda comes back and begins working on a ball of light for you. While she charges it up, it's "tennis" time with Gannon. Hit his green balls back at him until you knock him down. When you do, Zelda white ball of light will begin circling him. When it gets between you and Gannon, shoot that ball of light with an arrow. Now, you're done. Excellent work. Whew!
