"Castlevania: Lament of Innocence" is a great experience for both the beginning and experienced gamer. For the beginning gamer, "Castlevania: LoI" will provide a nice challenge without driving you insane in terms of game length or difficulty. For the more experienced, this game will challenge you and can take a considerable amount of time if you do more than fly through and beat the boss. We have written this walkthrough for both the beginning and experienced gamer. We completed the game with a "100% Complete", and this guide details how we did so. So, if you're "experienced" but can't find certain Relics nor that extra 2.3%, or if you're a beginner who wants to, perhaps, "complete" a game for the first time, you will find what you need in Lunabean's Castlevania: Lament of Innocence Walkthrough and Strategy Guide.

Before you dive in, here are a few tips:
1) Blocking is oh so important. The R1 and R2 buttons are your blockers. It's a rare creature or an extremely heavy attack that can break the block. If you block, you'll live longer. Also, if you block a Purple Attack, your Mana Meter will increase, allowing you to use the magic of your Relics.
2) Relics are collected through the game. Most are in hidden rooms. One can be purchased from Rinaldo. A couple are rarely dropped items by certain creatures. If you have mana in your Mana Meter, block and hit "O" the Relic will be active. Repeat to turn off the Relic.
Attacks are listed in your Sub-Screen Menus. Sometimes you'll learn one by killing a certain creature, sometimes you'll learn one because you pulled it off.
3) You can only carry one Sub-Weapon at a time.
4) Controls can be changed in the "Options" menu. Here are the default controls:
Left analog stick - Walk/Run
Square button - Light whip attack/switch zones/Examine/Confirm
Triangle button - Heavy whip attack/switch zones
Circle button - Sub Weapon/Cancel
X Button - Jump/Confirm
R1/R2 - Block
L1 - Opens Orb Menu
L2 - Opens Relic Menu
Right analog stick - Opens and moves cursor in Real Time Window/Menu. Changes items in "L" menus.
Select Button - Opens Map Screen
Start Button - Opens Sub Screen
Now that you have some tips under your belt, it's time to get on with the game!
Castlevania starts off with one of the longest cutscenes in the history of cutscenes. Don't judge the game by this. There are a couple more throughout the game, but nothing crazy.
In the cutscene you will find out you are Leon as you are introduced to Rinaldo. You follow Rinaldo to his cottage since you are trapped in the area. You discover Rinaldo has unfinished business with some Walter guy. Guess who will be finishing the business? That's right...you're the man, as always.
Rinaldo explains some stuff to you, you explain to Rinaldo that Walter has taken Sara, your love. Rinaldo gives you his WHIP made with alchemy. You find you can trust Rinaldo and his Whip. Rinaldo does something funky to your arm, which allows you to suck up the power of enemies you block, then use it against them. You'll learn to do that in time. You are told of a door in the castle that is blocked by the power of five monsters. You are going to have to defeat those five monsters to get through the door. And, with that, that game is yours.
You begin outside of Rinaldo's. Check your in game map with "Select". Notice the path going NE. Take it up, across and into the castle. You will enter "Prelude to a Dark Abyss".
In the entryway to the Castle you will see many purple flames. Use your Whip with the Square button to reveal the HEARTS inside. Hearts can be looked at as Ammo for your Sub Weapons. As long as you have enough Hearts, you can use those weapons. The Sub-Weapons are defaultly activated by hitting the Circle button. Do so and you'll see you have a Knife. Watch as Hearts go down as you use the Knife...so just keep collecting.
There are five orbs in front of you which are unlit. Each will light up when a boss is defeated. Up the stairs is the door locked by the power of five monsters. Check your map and head west.
Collect the Hearts from the purple flames (I'm not going to tell you to do that anymore...it's just assumed. There's a door to the north you cannot pass through, so continue west.

Through the door you will find a Tutorial beginning. You are told of the double jump here.
Continue and notice the MARKER STONE #1 in front of you. Grab it. You can go to your in-game map and place
your Marker Stone if you so desire. Hit "X" for map options. Hit "L2" to access the Marker, then move your control stick right
to activate the little guy. These are used simply to remind you if you need to come back to a room or area. Now, stand on the small platform in the room and
try the double jump to the ledge above. Not too tough. Collect the POTION and head out the door.
In this next room you are taught the double jump whip maneuver. It's easy enough, as it's just a matter of getting the timing down. Collect the SERUM, then try the new trick out. It's kind of a "1, 2, 3". "X, X, Square". Use the whip at the peak of your jump and all should be OK.
Double jump whip to the west balcony and collect MARKER STONE #2, then double jump whip to the north balcony and go through the door.
In this next room you simply have to defeat all of the enemies in the room to unlock the doors. Get your Whip out and start smacking. Also, start practicing your blocks with R1 and R2. Upon defeating the Skeletons, the doors will be unlocked and you will have learned the Quick Step. Exit east.
Here is another mode of travel, via your whip. You will come across poles like this often in the game, so learn how to use your whip in this function. Practice, practice, practice. Before exiting the room, grab the UNCURSE POTION and the MAGICAL TICKET. The Ticket allows you to go back to Rinaldo's at any point in the game. Don't worry about using it as you can buy them at Rinaldo's for 200 gold.
This next room teaches you a very important lesson which will make the game much easier for you if you pay attention. Guard against enemies' purple attacks and you'll suck in their energy to accumulate MP. MP is consumed when you use Relics. Grab the SVAROG STATUE in the room, which is your first Relic, then block the evil knight's attack. Your MP meter will go up. Block again and hit your circle button as you block. Your Svarog Statue will be activated which will make it possible for you to attack the evil knight. Hit him a couple of times, and he'll be out. Hit the Block +Circle again to deactivate the Relic before you run your meter out of MP. Exit out the door to the south and you will see you have just made a nice circle. Lovely. Head back to the entrance and go east.
From the hall, go into the door to the south. This is your first Save Room. Step into the purple circle to save. Save, exit out and continue through the east door.
It is from this room that you will be travelling to different levels in the game. Collect STONE MARKER #3 from the SW corner of the room and move up to the
platform with the many circles. Step up to the central circle and grab MAP 1 - MAP OF THE HOUSE OF SACRED REMAINS. Stand on the circle until it transports you to the first real level to the game.
