After quite the introductory cutscene of you being framed for the murder of your former mentor, you are left on the streets and you need to find a way out. You will also be shown here how to move around.

To your right is a tied up dog. Avoid him. There's also a locked door. No good. Head back the other way. Here you will be told that the bin looks climbable. Before climbing it, pick up the Chocolate Bar (used for Health) under the doorway. Climb the bin.

From the bin, jump up to the balcony, then across to the catwalk on the other side. Move forward and climb the ladder to your left. Get off the ladder, walk around, and jump through the window. Open up the drawers and cabinets to collect money, Chocolate, and Antique Doubloons (on the floor). The large bureau can't be opened at this time, so once you've collected all you can, exit out the window and climb up the ladder. Grab the Antique Doubloons on the ground, then jump across the gap to the canopy (hit action in midair to grab on). Also, you might want to save right before doing this, as I died a couple of times trying.

Once you make it to the canopy, head right and you'll get a message about "hopping" to the other side. Hold down walk (L1) and hit "jump" to make it to the other side. Once you do that, climb the pipe in front of you, shimmy along to the right, then, when there's a ledge below you, drop down to get your grip meter filled back up. Then, jump back up, and shimmy around the corner until you see the broken fence above you. Climb up to the rooftop. Now it's time to find Carvier's apartment.

In front of you is a small hutch that you need to enter, but you need something to help you open the door. Look to your left. In the back left corner of this rooftop area is a barrel with a slab of concrete on top of it. Pull the barrel back and this will reveal a way for you to get down. Do so and drop down to the small ledge. On it is a Crowbar. Excellent. Jump back up and head to the shack (notice the barrel behind the shack with Health Bandages on top...collect those).

Walk up to the shack and hit your "Action" button. Your Crowbar will automatically be used to break away the lock AND it is noted that you feel stronger now. Nice. Enter the shack.

In the shack open the bureau. Inside is your first weapon, the M-V9.

Back outside, go to where you found the Crowbar and shimmy across to the catwalk on the other side. You will automatically be dropped down, and you're told to move stealthily. Stealth is used by hitting your L2 button, then moving forward.

After peeking around the corner and spotting, perhaps, the most oblivious guard on the planet, move forward and you'll find the Gantry Gate Key on your left. After collecting the Key, sneak behind the guard and hit your "Action" button to take him down. Now, backtrack and open the gate, then climb down the ladder. Here you will get a cutscene and you will have entered the Derelict Apartment Block.
