Hunter: The Reckoning Review
Thumbs Down from Jer Thumbs Up from Ali
First Impressions (06.01.02):
Hunter: The Reckoning is a mad slash-em dash-em real-time RPG. Basically, you choose to be one of four bad ass characters. As you progress, your character enhances his/her abilities and gets better weapons and "Edges". Edges are basically this game's name for magic spells. So, you have your magic, your weapons (varying assault guns, flame throwers, chain saws, axes, knives, swords, etc.), and lots and lots of zombies to kill.

The real power of this game, however, is the multi-player, which of course, Allison and I never really play. But, if you want a good multi-player real-time RPG with lots of killing and little strategy, this one's for you.

Updated Impressions (06.05.02)
As time went on in single-player mode, the game got a bit too repetitive for our tastes. Enemies don't necessarily get harder to beat, there just became more of them to beat. I (Allison) was able to withstand the game longer than Jer, and I did enjoy it. However, for the first time, I had an Xbox freeze right after I had defeated Carpenter, then I had to endure choppiness issues everytime I encountered the Warewolf. Whether I had a bad copy of the game, my Xbox needs cleaning, or the game was just released before it was ready (it did seem a tad rough around the edges) we will never know.

Overall, both Jer and I agree it's a good game for people who enjoy real-time RPGs, but, for us, it was rather "eh". If we're going to play and enjoy an RPG, the magic spells just have to kick ass (Nightcaster style).

Once again, the rumor mill states this is an awesome multiplayer game.

FAQs/Sticking Points
Q. In the Hospital, where is the freight elevator I am supposed to escape to once I save the innocents (within the time limit)?
A. From where you start the level, there is one room on your right. The elevator is located in that room, immediately on your left side when you enter.
Q. What happens if I don't save at least 50 innocents?
A. You just get a sad ending. No sunset, everyone dies but you, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Q. How do I beat the Teddy Bear?
A. The shotgun is the best weapon to use against the evil bear...chainsaws do some decent damage, too.
Q. The Carpenter keeps regenerating health! What do I do?
A. First thing you have to do when you enter the room is arm the rocket launcher and shoot at the chair. Six or seven rockets do the job. Then, focus on your blade weilding friend with your powered up melee weapon.
Q. How do I beat Arkady (the Warewolf)?
A. Arkady hates the flamethrower. Burn the fur off the puppy. Also, use the rocket launcher.
Q. It's my second time fighting the Vampire Boss in the Mansion. How do I beat him?
A. Shoot him with a machine gun or some other weapon so he cannot hit you. After losing a quarter of his life he will move to the center of the room to heal himself. Go to the big window and shoot it until it breaks. It takes a while but the boards will come off (use a melee weapon). Also do not save the innocents in the room unless you want to fight two clones of him at the same time!.
