FAQs
Q. How do I rack up points?
A. Rails have different multipliers. Most multiply your score x10, although every level has, at least, one or two rails which multiply your score x500. Don't even bother trying to acheive high scores on anything less than a x500 rail. You will also have to to tricks on the rail to get points. Use either the "X" or the "Y" button to do tricks. The "X" button can be pressed faster, but will only multiply your trick by x8. The "Y" button will multiply your trick x16. If you're grinding the rail as far as you can and are falling only a few thousand points short, jump at the end of the rail and pull off some air tricks with "X" or "Y". So, to recap, the best way to acheive a high score is to find a x500 rail, do tricks with the "Y" button, then stick a few air tricks at the end.
Q. Why can't I do combo tricks?
A. To do combo tricks you have to push either "X" or "Y" in a rhythmic pattern. You can't wildly punch buttons like most of us are used to.
Q. Why is my score resetting in the middle of tricks?
A. Points are reset if you jump in the middle of a trick (although not at the end of a trick). Trick totals, however, keep on going with or without jumps.
Q. How do I open up the Street Challenges?
A. All five Street Challenges per level will be opened up when you find the Mystery Tape in that level.
Q. What's the point of Street Challenges?
A. Street Challenges open up Graffiti Souls.
Q. What's the point of acquiring the Graffiti Souls?
A. There are a couple of reasons to acquire these shiny objects. First, they unlock more graffiti art for you in the game's "Graffiti Edit" section. Second, once you "beat" the game's story mode and once you get all of the Graffiti Souls in a level, Roboy's "thumbs up" option opens up as something called the "Test Run" for that level. Get a Jet Rating in all of the "test runs" that are opened up for that level to unlock new characters. You get a Jet Rating by beating your opponent's score/time.
Q. How do I get to the higher levels of Rokkaku-Dai Heights to tag my areas?
A. All we can suggest is keeping your eyes peeled for billboards, as "grind to billboard, grind to billboard, grind, jump up" seems to be a common way to get higher up on this level.
Q. How do I beat the 13 platform challenge in Shibuya Terminal?
A. There's a simple trick to getting it. Just keep in mind you CANNOT stop moving nor jump on a platform more than once and, of course, you can't hit the ground . Other than that, you can jump on them in any order and use any rails. We were sent this "map" of one person's route: http://ogsolskjaer.homestead.com/files/STerminal.jpg
Q. How do I get X Graffiti Soul?
A. If you're having problems getting a Graffiti Soul, chances are you need to boost jump to it from a higher location.
Q. How do I Long Grind the Avenue in Dogenzaka Hill?
A. The Avenue is the main road. Grind the rails on the left side WITHOUT falling off of them. You have to connect all of the rails with jumps all of the way down to the bottom of the pedestrian walkway on the left side.
Q. How do I G--W--G--W...to the Sewer in Chuo Street?
A. In the race against Poison Jam he takes you through back areas of Chuo Street and leads you to a sewer area...this is where you need to be. Find the farthestmost grindable rail and start grinding. When you get to the end, jump to the billboard, wall ride it, and grind again. Continue this pattern until you reach the sewer. Land on the sidewalk to the left of the sewer.
Q. How do I do the "Kanji Symbol" Grind on 99th Street?
A. This grind challenge takes place on the red rails that surround the red dragon. Look for the first symbol that corresponds on each of the red pagodas that line the square. If you use your 1st person view, you will see each symbol written in bright yellow. Start from the corresponding 1st pagoda (the one that leads the way through the covered mall that eventually leads to the red bridge with the white kitty statue) and keep the dragon on your right side at all times (you will be grinding clockwise). When you finish grinding all of the red rails simply fall off (DON'T JUMP) and the Graffiti Soul will appear.
Q. How do I "Overpass w/a Crane Ground Top Ground" in Hikage Street?
A. Simply grind to the top, circle the top level, drop to the next level instead of jumping so you are now moving downward. Grind all the way to the bottom and you got it.
Q. How do I circle around Pharoah and not fall in Sky Scraper District and Pharoah Park
A. Grinding around the Pharoah doesn't mean grinding around the actual Pharoah...I was trying this for some time, too. You just have to grind the surrounding bluish cables without falling off...this is a lot easier, and the only way to accomplish the task.
Q. How do you do the gates grind at Kibogoaka Hill?
A. The real challenge here is locating a gate with these characters, really. It's past the part where you meet Boogie. Skate off the upper-level ramp and land on the inner-left electrical wire. Jump up to the top wire and ride it to the other side. You'll end up on the top level, with the gate right in front of you. Simply walk through it to make the soul appear.
Q. How do i do the grind swing ride grind in Sky Dinosaurion Park?
A. As for Dinosaur Park, see the giant ride made up of two platforms which swing in the opposite direction of each other? You have to start from a rail, jump on to one of the platforms, then jump back on a rail. The best rail to start from ia the green one near the start which leads down the dinosaur's back.
Q. How do I acquire new characters?
A. See below.
Q. I can't find Clutch and Prof K has stopped telling me what to do. Where can I find him?
A. Professor K won't update you on the whereabouts of Clutch if you're in any one of the places he could possibly appear. So, stay away from Kibogaoka Hill, Skyscraper District, and Chou Street. Eventually, Prof K will break into your game and tell you where Clutch is.
Q. How can I catch Yoyo?
A. Skate around the high part of the building where you disabled the red bombs, and you'll come across a thin platform leading to some stairwells taking you to a higher part of the building. From there, you'll come across a few sections of stairs leading to some unstable boards. When you walk on some of these boards, they will break, bringing you to a lower level of the boards. To continue, you must reach the bottom boards, and then you should be able to continue, in another area just like the one described above. Just keep going.
Q. How do I beat the Final Boss?
A. You have to boost-dash him (sometimes a couple of times) to make him vulnerable to your "tagging". Hop down the spiral staircase if you run out of cans to refuel.
Mystery Tape Locations
Level Location
Shibiyua Terminal The bad guys who challenge you in this level will lead you to a platform in one of their challenges. The Mystery tape is at the end of this platform.
Chuo Street Between the legs of the monster statue thing in the center of the open area on the NW corner of your map.
Dogenzaka Hill Work your way down the switchback area of the road. Near the end of the winding road keep your eyes out for some knock downable signs on your left side which are hiding a lower area where the tape is hiding.
99th Street Easy. At the bottom of the big tower.
Highway Zero Right smack dab in the middle of the main street with all of the carts and lights.
Tokyo Underground Sewer Facility Pass the trap that Garam lets you out of, then just skate straight onto the little island in the middle of the big room. The tape is right in the middle.
Rokkaku-Dai Heights It's in the building Rhyth is on top of.
Sky Dinosaurian Square Ride down the Bronto's back, you will see a big gap and the tape. Jump the gap, you'll get the tape.
Sky Scraper District and Pharaoh Park Fall off the Pharoah Park area, but don't jump off. If you fall close enough, you'll land in a "gated in" area beneath the Pharoah. In the middle/bottom is the tape.
Bottom Point of Toyko Sewage Facility Easy. In the same room as your save point, in one of the corners.
Fortified Residential Zone From where you saved Yoyo, look toward the ramps and go to the right of the right ramp. You should see a little nook. Drop down the hole, drop down a level or two and the tape should be right in front of you.
Kibogaoka Hill You have to look down for this one. Look for the big power lines. Ride them down and head left. Keep heading down (not grinding). On the lowest level you will find the tape.
Hikage Street: Head to the "left block". Right before you enter this "block" there will be an area of excess hallway. Look to the left. The tape will be in front of you.
